Writeback Table Properties

This section describes how users can customize the SenseOps Writeback Table after it has been added and configured in a Qlik Sense application. It covers appearance, data behavior, and available actions that enhance usability and interactivity.

The Writeback Table is used the same way for both File-Based and Database-Based Writeback. Appearance and Actions are identical across both variants. A few data behavior features are available only with Database-Based Writeback — these are called out clearly in that section.

Appearance

These styling properties are available for both File-Based and Database-Based Writeback.

Table Title

Enable Show overall title to add a title above the table and customize its text, height, background color, font color, font size, and text style to match your design.

Column Header Settings

You can show or hide the column header and customize its appearance by setting the background color, font color, and font size. These options help you create clear and visually consistent table headers.

Row Settings

Adjust the row height to control how compact or spacious your table looks. You can also enable Freeze first column to keep the first column fixed while scrolling horizontally. Columns can be resized directly to adjust column width where required.

Total Row

Enable the Total row option to show aggregated values. The total row is displayed automatically at the top of the table when enabled.

Highlight Edited Data

Edited cells can be highlighted by assigning a custom background color and font color. This makes it easy for users to spot changes before saving.

Strips (Row Styling)

Enable Show strips to automatically apply alternating colors to odd and even rows. You can customize the strip colors further by setting separate background and font colors for both odd rows and even rows to match your dashboard theme.

Hover Effects

Enable Row hover to highlight a row when the cursor moves over it. You can customize the hover background and font color to make navigation more intuitive for users.

Pagination

Set how users navigate through rows in the Writeback Table.

  • Show pagination: Toggle to enable or disable pagination.
  • Rows per page: Choose the number of rows displayed per page (e.g., 10, 20, 50).
  • Text color: Set the color for pagination text.
  • Active color: Color for the active page number.
  • Inactive color: Color for non-active page numbers.
  • Text style: Apply Bold, Italic, or Underline styling to pagination text.
  • Footer height: Define the height of the footer section.
  • Footer BG color: Set background color for the footer area.

Data Behavior

These properties affect how data is edited, tracked, and protected in the Writeback Table.

Common to Both Variants

Bulk Update

Bulk Update allows users to modify multiple rows in a single action instead of editing and saving rows individually, reducing repetitive edits for large-scale data changes.

  • Supports both Create and Update operations within a single bulk action.
  • Supports multiple key fields when identifying records to update, useful for datasets where a single column can't uniquely identify a row.
  • All Pages Bulk Update applies changes across all pages of data, not just the currently visible page.
  • Correctly handles number and percentage data types, and special characters (', ", [, ]) in updated values during bulk operations.

Database-Based Only

The following properties are available only with Database-Based Writeback, since they depend on the Writeback server.

Row Lock Settings

Set a row lock line color to visually indicate which rows are locked and cannot be edited. Row locking prevents multiple users from editing the same row at the same time.

History Table

Every edit made through the Writeback Table is automatically logged to a dedicated history table, with no scripting required. This supports auditing and change tracking over time.

  • Logs who made each change and when.
  • Applies to both individual edits and Bulk Update changes, keeping the audit trail consistent across regular and bulk edits.

Actions

The Actions feature allows users to perform key operations directly within the Writeback Table, without leaving the Qlik Sense environment. Actions are available for both File-Based and Database-Based Writeback.

Each action — Save, Add Row, Export, and Clear Changes — can be fully customized in terms of appearance, functionality, and placement.

Add Actions

  • Click Add Actions to create a new action.
  • You can choose from the following predefined action types:
    • Save
    • Add Row
    • Export
    • Clear Changes
  • Each action can be renamed and customized with various styling and behavior options.

Action Customization Options

Appearance

Enable Badge — Check this option to display the number of rows that have been changed or added.

Background Color — Use the Background color option to define the button's background. You can either select a color from the palette or use an expression to set a dynamic color.

Text Color — The Color property customizes the button text color, helping maintain contrast and visibility based on the dashboard theme.

Font Size — Specify the text Font size (in pixels) to adjust button label readability. You can use expressions to dynamically resize text if needed.

Show Label — Enable or disable the Show label option to display or hide the button's text label. Useful when you want to show only icons to save space in the toolbar.

Icon Type and Name — Choose from Solid or Brands icon styles available in Font Awesome, and enter the icon name using the FontAwesome convention (e.g., faAdd, faSave, faDownload). Reference available icons from the official FontAwesome icons list.

Note

Use the format faName (e.g., faAdd, faSave) when specifying the icon.

Functionality

Add Multiple Actions — Within each primary button (such as Save, Add Row, Export, or Clear Changes), users can define additional actions from the predefined action types to execute after the main action completes. For example, a user can configure the Save button to automatically save and export data in a single workflow.

Placement

Icon Position — Select the Icon position as Left or Right relative to the text label, for better alignment and consistent visual flow across actions.

Delete Action

Click the Delete icon to remove a specific action from the toolbar. Deleted actions can be re-added at any time using the Add Actions button.

After completing these configurations, users can interact with the Writeback Table to add, edit, and manage data directly within the Qlik Sense application.
